Ahavat Yisrael

Film Description

The documentary film, Ahavat Yisrael, follows a vocal cross-section of dedicated Jewish-American and Israeli peace activists including a "refusenik" Israeli soldier speaking out against what they believe is Israel's illegal and immoral Occupation of Palestinian territories. With the recent spate of Palestinian suicide bombings in Israel their stance grows increasingly difficult; prompting contempt from fellow Jews, feeling cast to the margins of their cherished community, labeled with epithets as "self-hating Jew" and "traitor". Yet, these individuals share a profound conviction that they act in a way that embodies the very vest core-values of Judaism, Zionism, and Jewish "humanist" values, and are deeply committed to ensuring Israel's long term survival. Their concern is not solely what the Occupation does to 3.5 million Palestinians, but how it serves to destroy Israel's security, diminish the fabric of her democracy and undermine the moral high ground of the Jewish people as a whole.
